Today is my first full day of working in the studio. :) It was fun to "come to work" this morning. When I was picking my outfit it almost felt like the first day of school. The list of things the studio needs is ever growing, but I'm so happy to be here that it doesn't matter. Thanks Dana Falconberry!

Desks and Bookcases
I love this Kipp Stewart bookcase. Why does it have to be so EXPENSIVE?? I've only ever seen one of these before and it was NOT FOR SALE. So I'm very tempted to buy this one. Just need to decide what is a rational price.Today I went desk shopping with my mom. We hit all of the big office furniture resellers in town. Tops had the most options. My favorite one was $1k and moms favorite was $1500. Either one of the desks we saw at tops would work great, but I wasn't "in love" with either of them. Next we went to Gary's office furniture. Mom picked out an amazing $2800 desk for me. :) It was nice. I like it, but I'm not going to spend that much on a desk, yet. The next place we went was Cox Office Furniture. I was pretty sure we wouldn't find anything, but then I stumbled upon the most amazing Burled Walnut desk with matching curio and credenza I'd ever seen. I was ready to buy it until I discovered they wanted $5400 for it. Guess I have good taste! After hours of furniture hunting mom mentioned that one of her friends was selling his beautiful solid wood desk for $100 because he is going to put his house on the market! I think my mom didn't tell me about it before because she wanted me to see how much nice desks cost. I have an appointment with the desk of destiny tomorrow. Hope I love it! Sofa picking was fun, but I find desk shopping to be a pain. Why do nice desks have to cost SO MUCH!

Studio Update
The furniture fairy delivered my new sofa to the studio today. I'm not crazy about how it looks with the wall color, but everyone else seems to like it. The sofa is, as my mother puts it, scotch tape colored. I'm planning on spicing it up with some robbins egg blue/brown throw pillows.
The studio should be ready for move in next Monday. :) Has anyone else noticed that I've said that the last 6 weeks in a row? It might really be done this time... hopefully.

Blik

What is Blik? Blik is a company that makes wall stickers. Blik wall graphics come in all shapes sizes and colors and can be removed with ease. I'm thinking about getting this set of tree limb stickers designed by Threadless. These would look perfect around the 100 year old cedar post that sticks out from the front wall of my studio. The building was originally part of a lumber a yard at the turn of the century before it was converted into a cabinet making shop and now a photo studio.

Picking Paint
Antique White.
18% Grey
OMG. So I spent the whole day painting the studio Antique White. Even with someone to help (thank you Mr. Six) I only got two walls finished. 700sqft is lots of ground to cover. So... looking at the studio it just doesn't look the way I had imagined it. I think I either want it brite white or some other totally not white color. If any of y'all have any sense of color PLEASE HELP ME. :)

Studio Update - Oct 8 Move In

Floor installation was scheduled to start today. As you can see that isn't going to happen. The good news is most of the walls are in they just need to be taped, floated and painted. The window and door have been installed. The plumbing is almost finished. The floors should be installed next week. That means I might be able to move in on Oct 8 if everything goes according t plan. BTW - That space at the top of the wall is a long window to let nice light in. :)

Studio Move In - October 1

The studio is almost done! I went by this morning for a meeting and it's amazing how much work has been done this week. The only things left are installing the windows, finishing the electrical, hanging the drywall and putting in the floors. The whole project should be done by Sept 29. Wow. I'm so excited. :)

Studio Update
Sept 1 was supposed to be moving day. Alas the studio is not finished. They are making some progress but the building still lacks floors, walls, electricity, plumbing, a window and door. The property manager said it will be ready in two weeks - which is what he said two weeks ago. :)
Look... it is the view through to the new Do512 office. Scott's company is renting the front half of the building so we will be neighbors! We are going to share a wall, but I've asked them not to put a door between the two office. This confused the landlord.
The bathroom. 6ft x 5ft of bathroom goodness. The door opens in for those of you making to scale replicas of my photo studio at home.
Isn't it just glorious!

Studio Update

Sept 1 date is most likely not going to happen. Last time I went by they had 1 window installed, but no floors, walls, electricity or floors. Hopefully we will be moving in on Sept 15. Furniture picking is coming along nicely. So far I have purchased a sofa, coffee table and two chairs. The chairs are going to be recovered by our neighbor at Accent Upholstery. I'm still trying to pick between having them redone in leather or cloth and I've narrowed the colors I want to light brown/oatmeal or robins egg blue. If I can't find better bookshelves/file drawers I'm going to pick them up at West Elm or Ikea. The only big items left to find are a desk and a gun safe or something similar to lock gear in.

New Studio Layout

I'm moving into the new my new Studio at the end of the month and I've become obsessed with the Icovia software that can be used to make to scale representations of a room. This was what I had in mind at first although now I'm thinking about moving the meeting area to other side of the space (near the bathroom). I'm starting to feel like hiring a decorator would have been better. I've been studying my new favorite blog Apartment Therapy to get ideas. I like the San Fran version the most, because if I wasn't here I'd be there or in Chicago. :) They even put up a post about my new sofa from Macy's the Corona Sofa.

Oh so Danish Modern

Found some AMAZING chairs today at an estate sale. They are vintage Stow and Davis office chairs circa 1957. They are currently upholstered aqua leather, but I'm planning on having them re-done in fabric. Best part about them is they came from the office of LBJ. He purchased them while he was a Senator and decided he did not like them and gave them to an Austin family (The folks who I got the chairs from today). The ad above is from Fortune Magazine. My chairs are just like the gold one. I also found an article in the statesman with a photo of the office. You can see a chair just like mine , but it gold in the foreground.

My new photo studio!!!
Yippeee!!! It's my new photo studio. Doesn't look like much yet, but it is going to be jamming! Renovation starts Monday. The right side of the building is for my studio and the other side is going to be used by Do512.com.
I've been spending countless hours thinking about furniture and flooring and playing with numbers to see how much I can spend. It is going to be so nice to move out of the old house I've been working in and have my own space. I love it because it's funky and HIP! The location is amazing. I'm on S. Lamar a block from Birds Barbershop.
