Go for it IGGY!!!! The Do512 photo show on Thursday night was a success. We had 200 entires and selected 25 photos to hang in the show. We are planning on having another show like this next year. Hopefully I won't have to be the judge jury and executioner for the next one too.

Deer

There are so many deer in my 'hood. Last night I spent hours driving around looking at them and taking pictures. These were my favorite two.

It's Up To You

Sold another copy of It's Up To You this week. This one was 30"x40" and framed in a steel frame. I was very pleased with how the work looked complete. There were a number of unexpected complications in the fabrication of such a large frame. It took a few tries to make the work stable. Oddly enough the answer was using smaller screws and smaller wood pieces. Ah the joys of trying something new. Hopefully the collector will let me take a photo of the piece in it's new home when it finds a place on the wall.

I'm working. No time for blogging.

Let the summer fun begin

We went to a crawfish boil this weekend! It was to get a chance to take photos for myself. I've been shooting so much for other people lately. Of note Paul Steckler was at the party. We talked about vintage gliders and we both have them on our porches.

Art

Mark your calender. I"m going to have a big art show very soon!!! December 2 will be the big reception for Open House photographs by Mary Sledd. The premise of the work is to "decorate" the loft the opening is taking place in. Should be a fun time. Stop by if you can and look around.

Pendroy Montana

Pendroy Montana. This photo was commissioned by one of my collectors. It is the newest member of my Montana Ghost Town collection. The final print for this piece is 30"x30" and will be hung with out a frame.

Mary Sledd – Law school dropout, reality TV show star, live music photographer.

Lots of people take music photos. The thing that separates me from the crowd is my approach. The first key to making great music photos is access. I’m a firm believer in the fake photo pass. If it is laminated people assume it must be official. Just be careful to choose a publication that is not so prestigious it is unbelievable. I also like to take a small plastic stool with me to shows. It makes me taller than other people in the crowd so I don’t have to be crushed against the stage. And most importantly I never shoot live music with out my noise canceling ear muffs. They look a little funny, but they are OSHA approved. With the earmuffs on I can stand next to PA and take pictures effortlessly.

I grew up taking pictures for the Austin Chronicle. They first published my work when I was 16 and I’ve been working for them ever since. I’ve also had photos published in many major publications including Nylon, Lucky, Photographers Forum and Box Magazine. I want to work for Rollingstone when I grow up.

Upcoming photo shows

I have a couple of upcoming photo shows, both at Progress Coffee. One show opens March 16 and is lots of photos of rock stars. The other show there will be a big opening party April 1 and it is a joint show with Mel called "Country to Country". Should be FUN!!!
