Roy Lee Bartlett, Jr. Roy Lee Bartlett, Jr. passed away peacefully on the morning of August 25, 2007. Roy is survived by his wife, Nancy, sister, Theresa Smith and husband Mark, sister-in-law Amy Kersten, and brother-in-law Michael Korman. Roy was born in Austin on January 11, 1949. He graduated from Johnston High School in 1967. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts and his Master of Education degree from Southwest Texas State University. Roy was a Photography teacher at Austin High for 34 years. His dedication to his students was evident in how he dared them to reach higher within themselves. He was a fun loving teacher who found his purpose in the students he encouraged and challenged during his teaching career. The interest and accomplishments of his students added to his satisfaction as a teacher. He was quoted as saying, "From the dark of the unknown to the light of knowing, students travel a hard road. It is my purpose to assist them on their journey in any way that I can". His legacy is the imprint of his forthright character and leadership, which he so distinctly left on the hearts of his fellow teachers and students. Roy will be sorely missed. Though he has departed to eternally be with his Creator, Roy will never depart from our hearts. The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday, August 30th at 6:00 p.m. at Smith Chapel at Riverbend Church, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Highway, with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Raymond Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the PAWS Animal Shelter in Kyle because of Roy's love for Beagles and in memory of a special Beagle adopted from this shelter.
